8 Months!

I cannot believe our baby is 8 months old today. He is growing and changing and learning so much these days! Cavin is such an active little boy, he is never still! He crawls in his own unique way by rolling and scooting on his back. I will have to have Matt try to post the video he made of his crawl. It is too cute. Cavin is very determined, he won't give up until he has gotten what he wants or where he wants to go. He "crawls" all over the house and is getting into everything!

He waves "bye-bye" now, sometimes, shakes his head "no-no" and loves to give kisses. He still only has 2 teeth, but he loves to eat! So far, he has eaten everything we have given him! He is not a fan of the puffs but he does love his Cheerios!

Here are a few pictures!
Cavin's first trip to the Zoo! He loved it, especially the monkey's!

Daddy does Cavin's hair at bath time, and Cavin playing at the park!

Name Game

We have had the first name for our adopted son picked out for a few months, but we hadn't decided if we wanted to share it or not until we brought our son home. But, we decided it would make things, specifically fundraising, so much easier if we could use his name. We won't decide his middle name until we have met him.

So, I will give a clue here and there as I think about it for you to guess what we're naming our adopted son. Comment with your guesses (unless we have already told you the name, please don't spoil the game!)

First clue: One syllable.

Easter 2010

Cavin has been sleeping around 11-12 hours every night. Straight. Which has been so nice for mom and dad! However, Easter morning he was wide awake at 4! I finally got him back to sleep around 4:45, but at that point I realized I might as well not try to go back to sleep myself. So I grabbed my Bible to read the Easter Story from Luke, my favorite gospel.

A particular verse really struck me that morning and has been on my heart and mind since then. Jesus has conquered the grave through his resurrection and has appeared to two of his disciples while they were walking along a road to Emmaus. The two disciples did not recognize Jesus' resurrected body and they began to explain to Jesus the discussion they had been having about death and resurrection of Jesus from Nazareth. Then Jesus explains to them what the Scriptures say concerning himself. Eventually, they all sat down to share a meal together, and as Jesus took the bread and gave thanks, the disciples eyes were opened and they were finally able to recognize Jesus. I love that Christ reveals himself in the intimacy of fellowship. As the disciples eyes were opened, Jesus disappeared from their sight. It is the comment made after Jesus disappears that has been tugging at my heart, its from Luke 24: 32.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"

These words show how emotional the explanation, the revealing of Christ's true identity was for them. It was like a message being sown into their souls. They once again have hope. The hope they had just burried three days before.

You see, they encountered Christ, and for the first time, realized that he truly was their Savior.

My prayer is that I will be more faithful in reading and studying Scripture that is very much alive, and beseeching God to open my heart to understand it. So that my own heart may burn within me as I encounter my Savior and draw closer to him.

Other Easter 2010 Highlights:
-Worshipping with Matt. The last time I worshipped with Matt was at Christmas.
-Watching Cavin with his first Easter basket. It was too cute!
-Lunch with family. Yummy food, great fellowship.
-Spending time together, just the three of us. We went for a walk, played on our living room floor and cuddled in bed.

8 More Months!

In order to complete the adoption in 2010 we knew we needed a filing date no later than October. We have been praying for an Ocotber filing date, and God has answered. Thank you all, for praying with us.

This morning we got an email from Maria and our filing date is October 28, 2010!!!!

We couldn't be more excited! On Thursday, the 28th our dossier will be filed with the Ukrainian government for approval. Once it is approved, we will receive an invitation to travel to Ukraine to as bad as it sounds, "pick out our child" and adopt him!

Maria expects with our filing date being at the end of October that we will be invited to travel early to mid December. If we are not invited to travel then, we will be travelling in February of 2011.

So we are praying that its only 8 more months until we meet our son and bring him home!

So here's what will be happening now:
1. We will finish up our homestudy in the next week!

2. We will begin the papework to file with U.S. Immigration, to get approval to bring our adopted child into the U.S.

3. We will begin filling out grant applications and fundraising.

4. We will eventually begin working on our paperwork for our dossier. Because everything has to be freshly dated, it will probably be late summer or early fall before we begin.

Prayer Requests:
-It is still our hearts greatest desire to have our child home with us for Christmas. This will be a tight sqeeze with our timeline, but we will continue to ask God to move and make this possible. Please join us in praying for our child, and that his first Christmas celebrated with a family will be this year!

-Please continue to pray for Matt and I, specifically for discernment as we begin dealing with the financial aspects of the adoption with grant applications and fundraising.
For us, there really was never any question about adoption, we always knew we would adopt. It was a decision I made the summer after my 8th grade year of school, and something we decided again together while dating 8 years ago. What has held us back until now was the amount of money required to adopt. We are definitely taking a huge step of faith, trusting and believing that God will provide all that we need and more.
We cannot wait to see how God continues to work and provide for our adoption.
